Abstract
This research analyzes who are of victims of firearm violence treated at the Tarcísio de Vasconcelos Maia Regional Hospital (HRTVM) in Mossoró/RN, in 2024, seeking to understand what this profile reveals about the social determinants of armed violence in contemporary times. Based on the historical-dialectical materialist method, the research starts from the understanding that violence constitutes a historical expression of the structural inequalities that mark the Brazilian social formation. The study articulates a literature review with documentary research carried out using records from the Electronic Patient Record (EPR), implemented at the institution in 2024. All cases of gunshot wound treatment from January to December 2024 were analyzed, considering sociodemographic, territorial, and circumstantial variables, as well as clinical evolution. The descriptive quantitative analysis was interpreted in light of historical-structural categories such as totality, structural inequality, reproduction of violence, and social invisibility. The results highlight the predominance of young victims, mostly male, Black, with low levels of education and precarious insertion in the labor market, residing in vulnerable territories, confirming the selective incidence of armed violence on historically marginalized segments. Limitations in institutional records were also identified, with gaps and underreporting that reinforce the need for qualification of human resources and improvement of health information systems, especially in surveillance, to ensure greater quality and strategic use of data in planning and formulating public policies. The research highlights the interface between violence and public health, demonstrating that its impacts extend beyond the traumatic event and affect the organization of hospital services and the Unified Health System (SUS). It is concluded that the identified profile is not random, but an expression of a social structure that unequally distributes protection and exposure to lethality, contributing to the strengthening of health surveillance, the formulation of intersectoral policies, and the praxis of Social Work in the hospital context.
